Organ Spectacular is an informal evening concert raising funds for Chichester Cathedral and its music. The event takes place from 7pm-9pm, during which attendees will have the opportunity to explore Chichester Cathedral after its usual visiting hours, to the beautiful accompaniment of music performed by Cathedral Organists Charles Harrison and Tim Ravalde. The programme will feature well-known favourites including orchestral transcriptions and film music, performed on the Cathedral's organ, with a compre and live big-screen video feed from the organ loft. Seating will be available throughout, but the audience is also welcome to move around the building during the performance, and a bar will be open throughout the performance. With a relaxed atmosphere, the performance is suitable for all ages. FAQs What is Organ Spectacular? Its a relaxed, sociable event with a bar, a compre, and a big-screen video feed so you can watch the organist at work. Is it a formal concert? Not at all. Youre welcome to sit and listen, but you can also wander, take in the building, and visit the bar during the performance. The atmosphere is intended to be easy-going and welcoming, whether or not youve been to an organ concert before. Who is performing? The Cathedrals own organists, Charles Harrison and Tim Ravalde, with Canon Vanessa Baron as compre for the evening. Whats the big screen for? The organ loft is high and out of sight, so a live video feed is projected onto a big screen. It lets you see the hands, feet and stops in action. What kind of music will be played? A programme of popular favourites: orchestral transcriptions, film music and well-known crowd-pleasers, all arranged for the organ. Do I need to know anything about organ music to enjoy it? No. The programme is chosen to be familiar and fun, and the compre will introduce each piece. What time does it start and finish? The event will open at 7pm, with music from 7.15pm, and will run through until 9pm, with the bar open throughout. How long does it last? 2 hours in total, but you are welcome to arrive and leave whenever you like within the performance time. How much are tickets? Adults 12.50; students 10; under-18s 5 Can I buy tickets on the door? Yes, subject to availability. Where is it? Chichester Cathedral, West Street, Chichester PO19 1RP Is there parking? Theres no dedicated Cathedral car park, but several city-centre car parks are a short walk away. Do I have to sit for the performance? No: seating is available throughout the building, but youre also welcome to move around the Cathedral during the performance if youd prefer to explore. Can I arrive late or leave early? Yes, thats absolutely fine. Its a relaxed, come-and-go evening, so please dont worry if you cant be there for the start or need to slip away before the end. How much of the Cathedral can I see? All public areas of the Cathedral will be open for you to explore during the evening. Will there be a bar? Yes, a bar will be open throughout the event. Are children welcome? Yes. The relaxed format and familiar music are designed to appeal to all ages. What should I wear? Whatever youre comfortable in. There is no dress code.
