Unhung Heroes takes its cue from the 1863 Salon des Refusés, the groundbreaking exhibition created for artists rejected by the official Paris Salon. Among them was Édouard Manet , whose once‑shocking work went on to reshape modern art. A charming detail from that moment in history: the Refusés drew bigger crowds than the official Salon. People flocked to see the “rejected” works — and many of those overlooked artists ultimately became far more celebrated than the ones who were accepted.
