Stables Theatre & Arts Centre
Writing Poetry In Company Approximate run time - 2 hours per week for four weeks. Thursdays - 8, 15, 22 & 29 October, 10am - 12noon. £80 for the block of four sessions. Maximum of 10 participants. This October, we’ll meet weekly to enjoy poetry in the company of others - reading poems together, talking about what we notice and using them as a gentle starting point for our own writing. Each session will explore a different theme, beginning with a selection of poems to read and enjoy together. We’ll then use these as inspiration for our own writing, with gentle prompts and plenty of time to follow an idea and see where it takes us. There will be opportunities to share your writing if you would like to, but never any pressure to do so. We’ll explore some of the ways poets use language, image, form and line, but above all, these workshops are about the pleasure of reading and writing poetry, making space for creativity and enjoying the encouragement that comes from writing alongside others. Open to writers at all levels, whether you already write regularly or are simply curious to give poetry a try. Come with a notebook, a pen, and an open mind. Jane Midwinter is a poet, curator, and facilitator based in East Sussex. Her poetry has appeared in Wild Court, the international poetry journal from King’s College London, and in the Poet Town anthology. Jane develops and leads relaxed, welcoming poetry workshops for writers at all levels, bringing together the enjoyment of reading poetry with the pleasure of making new work. Drawing on a long career in education, she is particularly interested in creating spaces where people feel comfortable experimenting with words, sharing ideas and finding their own way into poetry. Jane is Director and Poetry Curator of Eastbourne LitFest and regularly reads her work at events across the region.
