Betty Rea and Nan Youngman – Partners in Life, Art and Politics Wednesday 30 September, 2.00pm £12 per talk (incl. entry to exhibition). £10 per ticket if booking a full talk season. Betty Rea and Nan Youngman met as Artist International Association (AIA) activists and were partners for thirty years before Rea’s sudden death in 1965. A sculptor alongside Moore in the 1920s, Rea was a key player in in broadening the AIA’s appeal in the 1930s, returning as a sculptor of singular achievement in her last decades. Youngman, a continuously evolving painter of great breadth, was the power behind the post-war Pictures for Schools movement. Art historian Dr Will Rea, grandson of Betty, presents his forbear’s remarkable legacy as artists and activists - join us for a chance to appreciate their inspiring story.
