Knepp Castle
Join us on a tour of Knepp’s two incredible vegetable gardens and take a deep dive into how vegetables can be grown in a way that balances quality and productivity with the need to restore wildlife and combat climate change. The historical Kitchen Garden in the Rewilded Walled Garden at Knepp Castle has been re-designed by Tom Stuart-Smith for sustainable vegetable growing at domestic scale. Inspired by regenerative principles, we’re diversifying our edible and useful plants, encouraging natural predators to control pests, including plants for a vast range of pollinators and providing important wildlife habitat. We’re also improving our soil conditions to grow sustainably and help store carbon. Our organic, regenerative three-acre Market Garden at the Wilding Kitchen and Shop produces food on a much larger scale – tons of vegetables a year. Our amazing growers will explain how they manage this space throughout the seasons to grow and harvest beautiful vegetables and salads chosen for flavour, interest and productivity; and how they build soil, provide habitat, and integrate flowers and cover crops into the system. The workshop rounds off with a foodie, three-course celebration of all things vegetable, provided by our wonderful chefs at our Michelin-rated Wilding Kitchen, a stone’s throw from the Market Garden.
