Monika Lind Talk: Berthe, Morisot, Mary Cassatt and the Impressionists

Museum & Art Gallery

One-offThu 18 Feb
2pm
Berthe Morisot (1841-1895) and Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) were core pioneers of the Impressionist movement, who navigated a male-dominated 19th-century art world reshaping it through a distinctly female lens. Confined to the domestic sphere, they transformed everyday private spaces into radical artistic statements. They shared a commitment to the movement and a focus on women's lives, but their styles and their choice of subjects differed distinctly. This talk explores their lives, their work and how these two women stood up to their male contemporaries and played an important role in impressionist art. Speaker Monika Lind is a retired university lecturer of Culture and Humanities Studies with a passion to continue to share her eclectic interests in and knowledge of all things cultural with you.
